Padding & Shaping

Although Elizabethan hairstyles are very specific & easy to identify, we often see a lot of contemporary versions of this in today's catwalks, runways & photo shoots. The likes of Vivian Westwood, Alexander McQueen & Chanel have all done this is recent years for their shows. Below are images that show historical & contemporary Elizabethan hairstyles that use padding to create the shape in comparison to each other;

In lesson, we learnt how to put padding into the hair & attach it securely to our Kate Heads. After this, we then learnt how to work the padding into shape the hairstyles we desired. To create the padding, we used thing tights & filled them with couch roll and molded them to which ever shape we wanted. To attach this to the hair, we had to section off the hair so there was a section of the hair left at the front of the head where we were then able to create a small french plait. This is what the padding sits on top of & you use grips to attach through the padding tights, and into the plait. With the other section of hair that was left on the hair line, I curled to create a more historical look. Here is what I create;

Unfortunately, I am unable to show how I created this look because I was too busy & got too stuck into the task at hand to take pictures of the stages. I'm really proud of how this turned out because it looks professional & especially for a first attempt!
